Romania’s men start the tournament with an impressive 15-4 win

After three days full of action at the women’s tournament at the World Aquatics Water Polo World Cup in Berlin, the men took part in the action for the first time on Friday. In the first game of Group A, Romania and Iran met. Romania dominated the game from the start and ultimately won 15:4 (3:0, 6:2, 4:1, 2:1). Top scorers for the winners were Francesco Iudean, Andrei Prioteasa and David-Jean Bota, each with three goals each.Iudean was named Player of the Game.

From the start, Romania, tenth in last year’s European Championships, set the pace and were already leading 3-0 after the first quarter.

The Romanians extended their lead in the second quarter and went into halftime with a comfortable 9:2. Prioteasa, who is under contract with Wasserfreunde Spandau 04 in Berlin, and Iudean each scored three times before the break.

In the second half Romania continued to dominate the game against the runners-up in this year’s Asian championships and after three quarters led for the first time in double digits with 13:3.

David-Jean Bota also scored three goals for Romania in this phase, which ultimately resulted in a convincing 15-4 victory.
