On Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at 10:00 am, the women’s water polo teams from Uzbekistan and Ukraine faced off in the second group match of Group A at the Swimming and Diving Hall at the Europasportpark (SSE) in Berlin. Uzbekistan emerged victorious in the closely contested match, winning 11:10 (3:3, 1:2, 5:4, 2:1).
The first two quarters were evenly matched, with Ukraine taking a narrow 5:4 lead at halftime, partly thanks to their effective power-play tactics and to the delight of a group of young water polo fans in the stands who passionately cheered on their team. After the break, the Ukrainian team managed to pull ahead by three goals (8:5 and 9:6), but the Uzbek side fought back and equalized. The final quarter began with the outcome still uncertain, and the game remained exciting until the very end. Maftuna Pulatova scored the decisive goal for Uzbekistan with just 2:45 minutes remaining, bringing the final score to 11:10. Pulatova netted a total of five goals and was named Player of the Match. For Ukraine, Iryna Aboimova was the top scorer, contributing three goals.
